 A mobile phone thief, who was arrested with his accomplice, has pleaded with the Police in Lagos that his parents must not know that he was engaged in stealing. The thieves, Ufoma Asakpa, 22, and Augustine Omedo, 20, have confessed to the crime after their arrest with both accusing each other of leading one another into the act.

Vanguard reports that the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command that apprehended them alleged that they specialised in stealing handsets and valuable items. The Police said the suspects, who burgle shops of innocent members of public at Abule-Oja in Yaba, were arrested by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command on Oct. 13.

One of them, who hail from Ndokwa Local Government Area in Delta State, told NAN that his parents must not know that he was caught for stealing. In his confessional statement, he said: “I was a secondary school dropout. I was unable to proceed to senior classes after I failed Junior WAEC.

“My parents took me to my brother’s shop to learn how to repair generators but I couldn’t endure the period of apprenticeship. “While looking for ways to earn quick money, I met my partner who introduced me to stealing. I joined him about 10 months ago and the police never caught us. “In fact, my parents must not know that I am a thief because I leave home every day as if I was going to work.

“I have regretted my actions for taking to stealing for survival. It is the devil that pushed me into it,’’ he said. His accomplice, who lives at number 10, Kehinde Str, Ajegunle, Lagos, regretted that bad friendship lured him into stealing. “When I entered the shop pretending to buy a sachet of water to cook rice, I saw a phone charging in that shop.

“I took the phone and switched it off immediately. My partner had also gone to another shop to steal phones too. “We had successfully stolen those phones but suddenly, we saw RRS men chasing us. “As we were about to mount on our motorcycle, we were crossed and arrested,’’ he said in his confessional statement.

The two suspects revealed that they had stolen about 70 phones this year and identified their buyer simply as Alfa who owns a shop at Boundary in Ajegunle. The owner of the shop, Mr Oluwole Allen, who followed them to the Police’s Headquarters, said that he never had any inkling that the two suspects were phone thieves when they entered his shop.

POLICE ARREST MAN IN DELTA FOR KILLING HIS GIRLFRIEND & USING HER FOR RITUALS

A man has been arrested following the death of a 23-year- old undergraduate of the Delta State university.
The victim, Josephine Igbokwe, it was reliably gathered, had gone to visit her boyfriend in busa community, Oshimili north local government area of Delta State when she was mysteriously hacked to death by unidentified gunmen.

It was further gathered that the victim had passed the night with her boyfriend, Nnamdi Okolie, last Friday and on the following morning was on her way home to her parents’ house when she was allegedly attacked by suspected ritualists who removed a vital part of her body.


Sources said that the parents of the victim was not informed early enough of the incident as the boyfriend allegedly took the corpse to the state -owned mortuary claiming she was sick and died.
But this was not to be when during nightfall, the victim was yet to return home.

Confirming the incident, police public relations officer in the state, Mrs Celestina Kalu, said the police acted on a tip off when the incident was reported at the Ibusa police division and the police swung into action to confront the boyfriend who could not give details of her whereabouts.

She said that the boy was arrested and upon interrogation, confessed that the girl was hacked to death on her way home by unidentified ritualists who removed vital parts of her body. While saying that investigation was ongoing, Kalu said that the suspect was currently helping the police in its investigation and would be charged to court when investigation was completed.

BUHARI FIRES PRESIDENTIAL LIAISON OFFICER - SEE WHY

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly sacked his Presidential liaison officer, Nura Rimi.

Rimi was fired just five months after he was appointed a post in the villa.

No reason was given for the president’s decision, which has also not been officially announced.







The sack may not be unconnected with the embarrassment Buhari suffered at the recently concluded United Nations General Assembly in the United States.


Rimi coordinated Buhari’s itinerary, entourage and facilitated most of the meetings that President Buhari attended in the sidelines of the UNGA.

But Buhari reportedly missed some key meetings due to misinformation by his team.

The feeling in the presidency is that Rimi failed to effectively communicate with the president’s team and must be punished.

His punishment has been dished out for him already.

Rimi, who served as President Goodluck Jonathan’s Chief Protocol Officer was posted to Nigeria Embassy in Abu Dhabi shortly before the presidential election.

He was recalled by Buhari, who appointed him as his PLO before his inauguration.


Rimi is a career civil servant who had served in Nigeria’s embassy in the US before he was posted to the presidential Villa as a Protocol officer where he served both former Presidents Umaru Yar’Adua and Jonathan.

Nigerian Air Force Jet Crashes in Yola Killing all on Board

An aircraft that belonged to the Nigerian Air Force crashed in Yola, Adamawa state yesterday, killing all on board.
The identities of those on board have not been disclosed yet.
In a statement issued late last night, the spokesperson for the Air force, Air Commodore Dele Alonge, confirmed the accident, stating that the crash occurred at about 4:23pm and that it occurred due to bad weather.
He said the F7-Ni fighter jet, with registration number, NAF801, was “returning to base from a mission when it crashed around Hong, in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
He said: “There was no survival as the pilot of the aircraft lost his life in the unfortunate incident.”

As we expected, the Commission of Inquiry set up by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to supposedly probe the immediate past Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi did not disappoint. The panel lived up to expectations as a shambolic inquisition panel set up to indict Amaechi.

Crudely, without any sense of finesse or attempt to disguise its mission to 'hack down Amaechi', the panel lead by Justice Omereji did the bidding of its paymaster. As we earlier warned it turned out to be a comedy, a circus show to grab media headlines with bogus, phantom, and fabricated claims of corrupt practices by former Governor Amaechi and officials of his administration. It achieved nothing beyond political excitements, entertainment, and theatrics.

At every point during the public hearing, Justice Omereji clearly showed his bias and his determination to indict Amaechi and officials of his administration. Most times, the panel chairman simply concluded that they are corrupt, even before all the facts are made known to the panel, even before all sides have been heard. On one occasion, Omereji said he wished the panel had the powers of a court so he could lock up, perhaps for life, these so called corrupt officials.

Witnesses invited by the panel were coerced, directed, ordered and told in clear terms, sometimes with written notes from the commission staff, what not to say and what to say. The chairman of the panel prevented counsels to those invited, from asking relevant questions that are likely to deviate and detract from their pre-determined agenda and conclusion. Lawyers and witnesses invited by the panel were constantly intimidated, harassed and bullied. Witnesses were constantly bullied to toe the line of the commission pre-determined agenda and conclusion. The panel chairman was ordering witnesses not to answer questions that would expose the commission's bias to indict Amaechi.

Indeed, the Wike panel was an inquisition against Amaechi. Wike should go to court if he has any case of alleged corrupt activities against Amaechi. His panel is not and can never be a law court.

Wike's regular childish tantrums, theatrics, comedy and drama of screaming huge bogus and phantom figures of missing or stolen or misappropriated billions of naira by the Amaechi administration have become a silly and sickening distraction. Mr. Wike, since you do not know and none of your coterie of court-jesters is bold enough to tell you, we will tell you; you sound like a broken record. Our polity can certainly do without this madness.

Young Female Corper Raped, Murdered 2-weeks to Her Wedding

Just some few days to her wedding and 29th birthday, a Nigerian youth corp member, Miss Omolola Abogunrin, has been murdered by unknown men.




She was murdered in a sultry afternoon in the compound of an agriculture research institute located in Apata area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Sunday.

The late Miss Abogunrin was said to have been raped and strangled beside a stream within the expansive premises of the National Cereal Research Institute, Moor Plantation, Ibadan at about 1:30 
pm.

Police are still on the trail of the murderers.

The deceased was looking forward to her wedding which was scheduled for October 17, the day she would have been 29 years old.

A close source disclosed to TheNation that the couple-to-be held their family introduction four months ago, paving the way for proper marriage ceremony.

The wedding was to hold at a Christ Apostolic Church in Ibadan where both lovers live.

It was learnt that sympathizers confirmed rape and strangulation through the semen found on her private part and nail wounds around her neck respectively on discovering her corpse.

Residents said the deceased was returning from church when she was waylaid by the unknown criminals in a bush path within the institute’s farmland. She was said to be on her way to her lover’s house to spend some time with a plan to return home afterwards.

Her lover, Olusola Babalola, has since been arrested and detained by the police. Omolola graduated from the Polytechnic, Ibadan.

She was completing her one year compulsory national service in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, as at the time of her death.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Oyo State, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said Omolola’s corpse has since been deposited at the morgue of state hospital, Adeoyo.

He explained that her lover, Mr. Babalola, was arrested and detained as part of police investigation on the broad-day murder.

Ajisebutu also disclosed that the case has since been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the command, stressing that the command would do everything to bring Omolola’s killers to book.
